Each color in the palette represented one of the three races in the 1998 Election. The Senate races were color coded red, the Gubernatorial races green, and the House of Representatives yellow.
On page 2 and 3, you can see how the section fronts for each race were structured. The race color coding and branding ran down the left side, a natural progression from the logo above.
Colored labels marked headlines and opening paragraphs of each article to indicate what race the article was pertaining to. This device was particularly useful on the homepage. Users were able to quickly locate the races they were most interested in tracking.
